My First Impression
FlyVPN, which was based in back 2007, is a Hong-Kong based VPN service provider, which now is registered in British Virgin Islands. Even not very popular, I have heard of FlyVPN as my friend used its free trial.
My first impression about the website is above average, a decent looking website where you can find answer to your questions about the service provider. To my surprise, `the website language can be changed, and also FlyVPN has live chat support on the website.
Does FlyVPN keep logs?
On the front page it says: “Zero logging of your network traffic”, which is actually true. FlyVPN does log users network activity, however other activities are logged and stored by FlyVPN.
So to reiterate FlyVPN stores:
- IP address
- connection logs (timestamps, port no)
In addition, FlyVPN collects and stores identifiable personal information such as: name, phone number, email address, your internet service provider, GPS location, device info and the language.
On the positive side, FlyVPN does not store network activites of its clients.
Does FlyVPN bypass Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) or similar VPN blocking firewalls?
Countries like China, Iran, etc. implement firewalls that block access to anonymising services such as VPN or proxy servers. As an example, China uses the Great Wall of China (GFW) system to block most VPNs and proxies. As expected most VPNs get blocked in the process, but certain VPN services use extra protocols, so that users in those countries can bypass VPN block.
FlyVPN offers SOCKS5 proxy, which in my practice is able bypass deep packet inspection. Availability of SOCKS5 is mentioned on the frontpage, but no further information is given on the website.
Thanks to the free trial offered by FlyVPN, I didn’t have to pay to test it.
FlyVPN offers several servers for free trial users, however only two of them actually work. FlyVPN connected without a problem during the test. Surprisingly, I did not have to use SOCKS proxy, because standard UDP protocol worked fine.
I had same results in my FlyVPN test on Android platform. Korea 14 and Hong Kong 28 servers are the only working servers here, too.
To sum up, FlyVPN managed to bypass the firewall in my country on the Windows and Android platforms.
If you are not sure whether FlyVPN is for you or not, I suggest you to check Country Guide section, where other users will be testing which VPNs work good in your country, or alternatively try free 14-days trial, to check whether FlyVPN works in your country.
Is FlyVPN affordable?
You can buy FlyVPN subscription for a month, 6 months or year. If you choose annual plan, then you will be paying $6.66 per month, which gives you access to FlyVPN only on five devices at a time. In addition to dedicated IP address, you can also get dedicated USA or Korea IP address, for which you have to pay the same amount of money.
In my opinion, allowing only one device is a huge drawback, considering that other providers tend to offer 3 to 5 simultaneous connections for similar pricing.
Recently, FlyVPN changed simultaneous connections to five devices, which is a movement in the right direction.
FlyVPN accepts major credit cards via PayPal, PayPal, AliPay, UnionPay, WeChatPay, MyCard (Taiwan), Bitcoin, Yandex Money, Webmoney, and online payments via several Russian banks.
If you want to test FlyVPN before investing your money, you can try 14-days free trial.
FlyVPN offers 30-day money-back-guarantee only for PayPal payments.
