Does OneVPN bypass Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) or similar VPN blocking firewalls?
Countries like China, Iran, UAE etc. implement firewalls that block access to VPN services. As an example China uses the Great Wall of China (GFW) system to block most VPNs and proxies. Some VPN services use extra protocols so that users in those countries can bypass VPN block.
I contacted OneVPN support and asked whether OneVPN has a special protocol that works in China, and I was told that they offer OpenConnect protocol.
Here is the definition of OpenConnect protocol:
OpenConnect is an open-source software application for connecting to virtual private networks (VPN), which implement secure point-to-point connections. Cisco AnyConnect VPNs utilize TLS to authenticate and configure routing, then DTLS to efficiently encrypt and transport the tunneled VPN traffic, and can fall back to TLS-based transport where firewalls block UDP-based traffic.
OneVPN offers 7 day free-trial when signed-up via Android app. I registered in order to check how oneVPN performs in my country. As usual, I run tests on my android phone and Windows 7 laptop, on both ADSL and cellular network.
As mentioned above OpenConnect is the only anti-DPI protocol that can overcome deep packet inspection. OneVPN has standalone app/software for both Windows and Android platforms (but no native app for iOS though). First, I tested OneVPN using its program, which connected for a couple of minutes and then disconnected. Since I used trial version only limited number of servers were available, and only one of that servers worked.
Next, I tried connecting using OpenConnect GUI software, where I had to configure manually. The VPN seemed connected, but I was not able access censored websites.
Afterwards, I tested OneVPN on my Android phone, both with native app and third-party app by OpenConnect. The native app lacks OpenConnect protocol, which as a result did not bypass the firewall. On the other hand, OpenConnect app connected successfully, however with a bit slow speed.
To sum up, OneVPN evades DPI on Windows (OpenConnect), not stable, and Android (OpenConnect) platforms.
Is OneVPN affordable? (OneVPN’s pricing)
OneVPN offers one standard plan with 5 multi-logins for $48 annually. In other words, when subscribing for a year, cost per device per month is $0.79, which is a good pricing.
OneVPN accepts major credit/debit cards, Paypal, Perfectmoney, BitPay, Paymentwall (WebMoney, GiroPay, UniPin) and various Gift Cards.
OneVPN offers no credit card required 7-day free trial when registered using Android app. In addition, there is a 7 day money back guarantee, only if you can give a valid reason and did not consume more than 3 GB traffic.
